There're two backing plates now, the casting ones and stamping ones. For stamping backing plates, we have backing plates for pad glue process and mechanical retention system.
For pad glue process, used on majority of applications, reliable, stable performance, used by original equipment, and excellent cost per mile are the advantages.
For mechanical retention system backing plate, mechanically attach to friction with hooks, increase shearing resistance and pad life, only needed in high-temperature or severe duty situations and increase costs of brake pad are the features.

The pad glue process backing plate has been used by OE for many years and is the most common backing plate type in the industry. This type of backing plate has a proven history of being the best option for everyday driving vehicles and providers drivers an excellent cost per mile on their brake pads.
Mechanical retention system is a backing plate that is not needed for everyday vehicles as they do not endure the demands that would require upgrading to this backing plate.
The backing plate is critical for reliable braking performance.
